The saree is significant of Indian traditional attire for women. It is symbolic of sensuality and elegance and is considered to perfectly complement the ornaments and jewelry that adorn a woman. Over time the way a woman drapes a saree has evolved while women of different ethnicity wear it in a different way. A woman is known to be very particular about her collection of saree who builds it painstakingly.
The promotion and marketization of sarees has given rise to inventive styles while the emergence of designers has lent exclusivity. In the current scenario, no woman’s collection of saree can be acceptably complete. However, the bandhani and designer sarees are known to form the essence of every woman’s collection. The bandhani saree is an exponent of Gujurat and is one of the most sought after variety of its kind; elaborately hand stitched and dyed. The embroidered designs and the exotic hues of color together form an irresistible combination as far as women are concerned.
The term ‘bandhani’ is derived from the Hindi language and implies the art of draping a saree. The dyeing process employed is a tedious and elaborate job that takes at least two weeks to finish. The designer sarees are a product of the new age perfectly in vogue with the changing times. The designers invariably preserve the ethnicity of a saree while ensuring that they do not comprise its authenticity. Women elide the bandhani saree. from their saree collection at their own peril which is why this variety of saree in combination with the designer sarees are said to form the essence of their collection.
